Low lift truck training is one of our two lift truck training courses for material handling in the workplace.

Classroom Training Theory - Part 1

  • Discuss the Health and Safety Act.
  • Review fines and penalties.
  • Review the classifications of low lift trucks, and highlight differences.
  • Review the Moral, Ethical, Social and Psychological.
  • What an operator's options are when they are asked to perform unsafe work.
  • How the operator responds to an emergency situation involving an Low Lift Truck.
  • Discuss close calls that you may have experienced.
  • Review the Centre of Gravity of the load
  • Reading and understanding the capacity of a low lift truck.
  • Review Lift Truck rules for the operator.

  • There will be a classroom test containing 34 true or false questions.

All classroom trainees must complete the theory part of the training, prior to taking the hands on evaluation.

Pallet Truck Evaluation - Part 2

After they have successfully completed the classroom test they will have to complete a hands on evaluation. This evaluation will involve various exercises to be completed successfully on the pallet truck in order to acquire their certification. The trainees will be ask to perform a pre-shift inspection and then perform the following tasks.

Pre-shift equipment inspection, and work area survey will be completed ,as well as the following:

  • Inspect the load is stable enough for lifting and transporting at a safe speed.
  • Observed the operator picking up the load
  • Make sure th forks are at the proper height, as well as the proper tilt for the type of load
  • Observed the operator stopping smoothly and that he/she looks while backing up.
  • Stops at all blind corners, and makes sure the forks are level before entering.
  • Their Load is centered, and then proceeds with the load at safe height
  • Make sure the load all the way back to the heel of the forks * how the trainee deals with anobstructed view
  • The trainee will be observed stacking a load
  • Approaching with their load down, levels the load before putting in place
  • Trainee insures all people are at a safe distance while raising the load.
  • Smooth operation, aware of rear end swing
  • Park the forks flat, tilt forward, then put the parking brake on

Evaluation Time:  Practical evaluations take approximately one-half hour, for experienced drivers. It is suggested that “new” drivers be observed and practice for a minimum of four hours prior to being evaluated.
